FC Barcelona have confirmed that striker Luis Suárez suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday night’s Copa del Rey Final win against Sevilla.

The striker pulled up after stretching to reach a high pass just short of the hour mark into the showpiece encounter. Shortly after this he was helped from the field in tears, replaced by Rafinha. He appeared inconsolable on the bench, though his mood obviously lifted when his team-mates secured the trophy and he got to frolic on the pitch with his children and team-mates.
But after tests on Monday, Barcelona confirmed he had a serious hamstring injury and would begin recovery work immediately. The La liga champions didn’t specify whether or not it was a tear or a strain.
The fact that Suárez is still joining up with the Uruguay squad ahead of the 2016 Copa América on June 1st (where he will continue his rehabilitation) indicates that perhaps the injury is not as serious as feared and he could yet play some part in Uruguay’s attempts to regain the Copa América.
